AutoEdge
Privacy Policy
AutoEdge is a vehicle research app that helps you decode VINs, find local listings, and look up recalls. This policy explains what the app touches, where data goes, and the controls you have over it.
01Who we are
AutoEdge is developed by [YOUR DEVELOPER OR BUSINESS NAME]. If you have questions about this policy or about how the app handles data, you can reach us at [YOUR-EMAIL@DOMAIN.COM].
02What data the app uses
While you use AutoEdge, the app may handle the following information:
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), entered by typing or by scanning
- Year, make, model, and mileage
- ZIP code and search radius
- Vehicle history entries you create
- Service log entries you create
- App settings and preferences
The app uses your device camera to scan VIN barcodes and to read printed VIN text. All image processing happens on your device using Google ML Kit. Camera images are never uploaded to us or to any third party.
The app uses your device location only when you tap the "use my location" button, and only to fill in a ZIP code for nearby listings. Your precise coordinates are not stored or transmitted by the app.
03Why we use it
- VIN, year, make, model, mileage — to decode your vehicle and look up recalls
- ZIP code and search radius — to find local listings in your area
- Camera access — to scan VIN barcodes and recognize printed VINs
- Location access — to fill in your ZIP code when you ask the app to
- Vehicle history and service logs — so you can keep notes on the vehicles you own or are researching
04Where data goes
Most of what you put into AutoEdge never leaves your device. The exceptions are below — these requests are made only when you actively use the corresponding feature.
Auto.dev — receives your VIN and ZIP code when you decode a vehicle or search for local listings. Their privacy policy is available at auto.dev/privacy.
NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a U.S. government agency) — receives VIN, year, make, and model when you check for safety recalls.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
05Where it's stored
Vehicle history, service logs, and app settings are stored locally on your device using Android's AsyncStorage. We do not run servers that hold your data, so there is no cloud copy to back up or to leak. If you uninstall the app or clear its storage, the data is gone.
06How long we keep it
Data stored on your device persists until you delete the entry, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Data you send to Auto.dev or NHTSA is governed by their respective retention policies; we do not control what they keep.
07Your rights and controls
You are in control of the data the app holds. You can:
- Delete individual entries from inside the app
- Clear all app data through Android Settings → Apps → AutoEdge → Storage → Clear data
- Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data
- Email us at [YOUR-EMAIL@DOMAIN.COM] with any question about your data, including requests related to rights you may have under applicable privacy laws
08Children's privacy
AutoEdge is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, contact us and we will work with you to address it.
09Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves — for example, when we add user accounts, in-app purchases, crash reporting, or analytics. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent change, and significant updates will be announced inside the app.
